The Springdale Barrel Room is a 30,000 sq ft operation that currently houses 1200 small format wood vessels in addition to a number of large format foeders. There are currently over 3,000 BBLs of aging beer in wood.
Springdale is looking for the right candidate to manage the day-to-day operations of the barrel program. The position works closely with the entire Jack’s Abby and Springdale management teams, from beer creation and execution to packaging. The right candidate for this job will have a passion for the sour beer category and will relish the challenges associated with managing a huge inventory of aging beer.
Essential Duties:
Monitor fermentations including routine analysis of in-process beer.
Manage the propagation of numerous wild yeast and bacteria including but not limited to brettanomyces, lactobacillus, and pediococcus.
Schedule production of all beer transfers from wort to packaging.
Work with barrels; includes cleaning, fruiting, filling, and evacuating oak barrels.
Assist in packaging and transfer of finished product.
Work with the lab to establish SOP’s for testing.
Develop and create new projects and blends.
Setup, maintenance, and breakdown of fermentation and packaging equipment including sanitary Clean in Place (CIP) procedures.
Recording sensory information.
Job Requirements:
Ability to lift 75 pounds from floor to shoulder height.
Ability to stand, walk, crouch, and lift regularly throughout the duration of a shift.
Ability to work and focus in wet, loud, hot, and cold environments.
Ability to critically taste, evaluate, and discuss beer at various process points.
Comfortability operating forklifts, electric and manual pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
Extreme attention to detail.
