    The Position:


    The Brewing Manager will lead our brewing team at our Canworks Production Brewery. The brewing manager is responsible for ensuring consistently high quality beers are brewed, packaged and shipped from Canworks. Our Canworks brewery produces approximately 25k barrels of beer annually and overseeing consistency of our core beers is a key component of the job. First and foremost this person must be a great leader, able to coach the team, create and maintain brand quality/consistency standards and implement improvements and procedures while maintaining great team morale.

The brewing manager will possess a wealth of knowledge and experience in and will act as the Technical Brewing Subject Matter Expert. Our ideal candidate will come to work each day with an “over and above” attitude and desire to constantly improve themselves and our team. The Brewing Manager will be able to identify opportunities for efficiency in our processes, update SOPs and train the team on the improvements.


    Primary Responsibilities:
    • Team Management
      • Lead the production brewing team to create the best beer in the world
      • Work closely with the Director of Innovation to scale up new recipes
      • Work with Production Director to conduct brewer performance reviews and evaluate staffing requirements
    • Quality
      • Build upon already established quality standards
      • Establish and lead taste panel to ensure product consistency is within spec
      • Work hard with our Production Director to ensure our packed beer are of the highest quality
    • Efficiency
      • Analyzes brewing processes for improvement opportunity
        • Grain use per batch
        • Yeast schedule & usage optimization
        • Schedule Efficiency
      • Develop KPIs to track, manage and improve performance and efficiency
      • Tracks & manages brewing costs
    • Production
      • Writes, Reviews and Updates Brewing/Quality SOPs
      • Ensures daily tasks are completed by Brewing Team
      • Work with Production Director to develop short and long department term strategic plan
      • Ensure responsible use of brewing resources by reducing process loss throughout the brewing, fermenting and filtering operations
      • Ability to perform production brewing & cellaring tasks when necessary
    • Planning and Scheduling
      • Writes the Canworks brew schedule
      • Source and manage raw material contracts
      • Works with Logistics planner ensure raw material freshness
    • Leadership
      • Be the technical brewing Subject Matter Expert (SME)
      • Serve as a resource and be available for Team Members at all levels. Encourage Process Improvements and input from our whole team.

    Requirements:
    • 5-10 years of brewing experience
    • Exceptional communication skills
    • Ability to recognize beer off-flavors-causes and develop/implement corrective actions

    Desired Skills:
    • 3 years of experience leading and managing a team
    • Formal brewing diploma or certificate from accredited institution
