    Assistant Maltster/Assistant Distiller

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities to include (but are not limited to):
    • Cleaning and sanitation of distilling, brewing, and bottling equipment.
    • Preparing spent grain and liquids for waste removal.
    • Assist in milling, mashing, fermenting, and distilling.
    • Transferring of mash, fermentations, high wines, etc.
    • Assist in distillations after training by head distiller.
    • Inventory management and record keeping.
    • Receipt of raw materials and operation of fork lift.
    • Assist in proofing, blending, barreling and bottling of spirits.
    • Loading steep vessels,
    • Unloading malting units,
    • Operating the 50 lb bagging scale,
    • Mark materials with identifying information using appropriate method,
    • Picking and filling orders from stock,
    • Packing and shipping orders,
    • Sweep, dust and mop; organize warehouse and work area for orderliness at all times,
    • Wear the proper safety equipment,
    • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all job functions.

    Requirements
    Applicant Qualifications
    • 1-3 years of previous distilling or brewing experience strongly preferred.
    • Background in chemistry or lab processes preferred, but not required.
    • Strong mechanical/light industrial background preferred.
    • Experience in the beverage industry is a plus, with a passion for craft beverages.
    • Able to follow written and verbal instructions with little supervision.
    • Willing to work some long hours, including occasional weekends and occasional evenings.

    Required Education and Experience
    High school diploma or GED, or equivalent years of experience.

    Preferred Education and Experience
    Background in farming, brewing or distilling.
    Comfortable working with large equipment.
    Physical Demands
    The distillery and malting assistant position is labor intensive.
    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move objects up to 55 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

    Work Environment
    This position works in a warehouse setting, with some outdoor exposure during the workday. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, filing cabinets, and standard warehouse equipment such as hand trucks, forklift, shrink wrap, box cutters and tape dispensers.
