    Head Brewer Position Available


    Michael Waltrip Brewing is interviewing for an immediate opening for a creative brewer with head brewing experience for it's beautiful, shiny new brewery in Bristol, VA. Our top notch facility is already in place, full of top of the line, practically new equipment. We are looking for the right candidate to take the lead on beer production for both in house beers and distribution in the region. Head brewing experience is necessary and the ideal candidate must be knowledgeable and able to preform all brewery tasks from start to finish.

    Facility is currently undergoing some FOH modifications, but the brewing equipment is in place and includes a 15 BBL Prospero SK High Gravity Brewhouse, a mix of 15 and 30 BBL fermenters and brites, full lab facility, and a Cask ACS canning line.

    The ideal candidate has a minimum of 2 years experience brewing on a professional level and is ready to showcase his/her creativity and leadership skills at an exciting new brewery.

    Applicants must have experience as a full-time brewhouse operations leader, with a good understanding of brewing science, wort production and biochemistry, tank cleaning and sanitation as well as transfer and clarification of finished beer. Candidates should be exceptionally passionate about the production of top quality beer. Basic chemistry skills are required. Great communication skills, leadership and teaching others are absolute musts, as is ability to work well on a team. Orchestrated Beer knowledge is a plus.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to: brewhouse and cellar operations, processing wort and beer, CIP, keg cleaning/filling, yeast management and health assessment, recipe formulation, ingredient ordering and inventory, tap room and wholesale order filling, packaging (canning), and general brewery tasks. The typical brewery strength and endurance requirements apply - brewery work can at times be very physically challenging and days are occasionally 10 hrs., so endurance and strength are key requirements - must be able to lift 65# to shoulder height regularly and deadlift 120# kegs occasionally.

    Compensation is consistent with regional industry rates and experience.
