We just built out a new brewery in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn to support the growth of our kombucha and our new probiotic sparkling water. Bear’s Fruit is the #1 selling regional kombucha at Whole Foods Northeast with retail distribution to 800+ stores across 40 states.

    Job Summary

    We are looking for a junior level brewer (0-2 years of experience) excited to learn the ins and outs of kombucha brewing, fermentation, and beverage manufacturing. The brewer will work closely with the Director of Operations, and responsibilities will grow according to training and aptitude. We are looking for someone who is technical, engaged, and interested in growing their role and responsibilities.


    Specific Responsibilities
    • Operate fermentation, cellaring, brew house, and packaging systems
    • Maintaining a “safety first culture” by ensuring SOPs and food safety / hygiene procedures are followed
    • Record and verify all required production data for quality control and food safety
    • Monitor mechanical and operational integrity of brewing equipment
    • Perform routine maintenance of equipment along with Director of Operations
    • Run canning shifts with an emphasis on quality control and system uptime
    • Follow detailed recipes and prep/process fresh ingredients
    • Perform basic lab work (TA, brix, pH measurement)
    • Load/unload trucks with a forklift
    • Help with basic facilities functions, down to cleaning trash cans
    • Work occasional variable shifts, as scheduled
    • Work safely with hazardous chemicals
    • CIP of all associated brewing equipment and manual cleaning of all work surfaces and prep areas.
    • Maintain sanitation and cleanliness standards for all areas of the facility
    • Help maintain a culture of continuous improvement
    • Ask questions, do research, and always be learning something new

    Requirements
    • Interest in craft beverages and fermentation, especially nonalcoholic fermentation practices and flavor/sensory development
    • 1-2 years experience in a production environment a plus
    • Demonstrated mechanical proficiency a big plus
    • Train for and maintain any required food permits and licenses
    • Able to work in a physical demanding environment for 8 hours per day
    • Able to lift 55 lbs
    • Competent with (MS Word, Excel, Google Docs).
    • Excellent time management
    • Able/willing to operate a forklift



    Salary Range

    50-55K Depending on Experience
