    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Packaging Manager is responsible for overall performance of the Boston facility's packaging department, including people, equipment and systems. The Packaging Manager will drive continuous improvement for optimal production performance while meeting customer and business expectations. This includes system and operations development, staffing, training, production scheduling and reporting. The Packaging Manager is responsible for supervisor and employee communication, motivation and morale within the department


    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Direct oversight of the packaging department and initiatives including bottling, racking and canning
    • Responsible for consistently meeting daily packaging schedule for all production lines
    • Direct and coordinate production processes and operational functions to achieve goals and optimal performance; coordinate with distribution to ensure efficiency between departments
    • Provide reports to Chief Brewing Officer regularly on line efficiencies, down-time trends, quality issues and development of improvement plans
    • Work with maintenance department and department leads to build cost-effective spare parts program and PM system
    • Ensure packaged product quality is continually improved
    • Participate in regularly scheduled departmental and upper management meetings
    • Work with marketing department to ensure smooth rollouts of any new packaging changes
    • Work with maintenance department to properly train staff on new equipment
    • Follow up on safety committee recommendations on best practices
    • Work with Director to develop capital expenditure budgets for improvements
    • Contribute to positive work environment through open and constructive dialog with staff and management
    • Strive for continual innovation and improvements
    • Develop and maintain professional and technical knowledge by mastering operating manuals, reviewing professional publications and benchmarking current practices
    • Maintain and ensure safety compliance including overseeing safety standards and policies, while also managing safety concerns and continuous improvement efforts



    REQUIREMENTS/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
    • Minimum of 5 years packaging or 7 years manufacturing experience
    • Operational management experience required
    • Proven ability to manage production processes, quality control, costs and utilization of other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacturing and distribution of goods
    • Knowledge of machinery and tools including design, uses, repair and maintenance
    • Strong planning and project management skills
    • Strong computer skills (including knowledge of PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
    • OSHA approved Forklift Certification
    • Managerial and supervisory skills



    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    The employee must occasionally lift and/or move packages of up to 40 lbs. Must be able to work on and around packaging equipment, and also sit in an office for longer periods of time. Must be physically able to handle pallets of beer that weigh up to 2100 lbs. using a pallet jack and forklift. Must be able to perform repetitive tasks in a production-line setting. Ability to use a desktop computer, telephone and office equipment is a must.
