Our growing company is seeking a full-time Lab Technician to join our team in the Quality Control / Quality Assurance department in February, 2017. Our goal has always been to create consistent quality beers on both our 7bbl and 20blbl systems. Prospective candidates should note that our QC/QA department is already in its implementation stage and the extent of current lab responsibilities listed below will evolve as the department matures.
Description:
Sample, analyze and record microbiological status of beer in process and of packaged beer
Create and manage media including WL nutrient agar and HLP medium
Sample and analyze carbon dioxide and oxygen levels in packaged product
Test and monitor hygiene of fermentation vessels and packaging equipment
Count and record yeast cells
Calculate and record yeast cell viability and pitch rates
Monitor and document outcomes and communicate with quality control team on a regular basis
Conduct forced fermentation
Sample, analyze and record microbiological status of water
Maintain a neat, clean, sanitary laboratory
Work in a careful, safe manner in accordance with company safety procedures
Understand results and make suggestions for solutions
Required Experience & Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, microbiology, related field or
Equivalent of on the job training with previous QC / QA experience in a brewing or beverage industry laboratory.
Familiar with the entire brewing process from grain to can.
Meticulous cleaning and sterilization protocols
Passion for quality craft beer
Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
Proficient in MS Excel and Word, Google Drive and sheets/docs
Exceptional time management skills and work ethic
Self-motivated, self-directed and able to think critically and troubleshoot
