POSITION SUMMARY:
JOB TITLE: Brewer
LOCATION: Nine Locks Brewing Company, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
POSITION TYPE: Full Time, Salaried
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Execution of brewing operations including but not limited to: Production of wort, managing yeast, cellar management, beer transfers, and maintaining accurate and detailed production records.
- Quality control from grain to glass, fermentation tracking, sensory evaluation, some lab work.
- Keeping the brewery impeccably clean, organized, and presentable to the public.
- Assistance with record keeping and excise tax tracking
- Strict adherence to SOPs
- Any and all other tasks which may be required, including helping with packaging, keg cleaning and filling, special events, and general brew house maintenance.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Available to work full time (40 hours per week) including mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed
- Demonstrated knowledge of beer styles and brewing techniques * In depth understanding of brewing ingredients and processes, their uses, and their relation to each other
- Able to lift 25 KG repeatedly and 70 KG occasionally.
- Exceptional janitorial skills * Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills
- Positive and 'can do' work ethic.
AN IDEAL CANDIDATE WOULD POSSESS:
- Two or more years of professional experience in a brewery.
- An accreditation, certificate, or formal education in brewing science, or a degree in Science, Maintenance, Engineering, or a similar field.
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Able to identify problems quickly and implement solutions
- Prior experience operating a lift truck preferred.
- Enthusiasm for craft beer and a commitment to understanding and supporting beer quality.
