To be discussed About the system The brew system is called the Hopmaster and is produced by Portland Kettle Works (PKW) located in Portland Oregon. The entire system is 100% American made including the fermenters, boiler and glycol chiller. The ancillary equipment such as pumps, fittings, hoses, etc. are sourced from the USA or Germany. No part of the system comes from China. It's the third generation version of the system which was just recently upgraded from the second generation model. It is a 5 barrel (155 gallon) steam fired system. PKW prides themselves on over building all of their equipment so there is plently of space throughout the system to brew any style of beer including high ABV versions without sacrificing the 155 gallon final volume. What makes the system very unique from other brewing systems is the external calandria on the mash tun. It's a large tube where steam is used to heat the recirculating sweet wort being pumped through it from underneath the false bottom of the mash tun to the top of the grain bed to help regulate and maintain the temperature of the mash. It can also be used to cool the wort if the steam is turned off while running the pump. It is also used to raise the temp of the wort by up to 20 degrees on its way to the boil kettle. The boil kettle has an internal doughnut style steam calandria that is used to boil the wort. Wort chilling will be done through a two stage oversized chiller underneath the brew system using city water first then glycol. We will have one 10 barrel and three 5 barrel uni tank fermenters along with a 10 barrel bright tank to start with. Hot water will come from a 10 barrel hot liquor tank. The grain mill and grist case are also all stainless steel PKW products. The mill is a fully adjustable three roller system and the grain will be delivered to the mash tun by auger from the standing grist case.
