Job Title: Cellar Technician
Location: Branford, CT
Reports To: Brewmaster/Plant Manager
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Position Summary:
The Cellar Technician position is responsible for many aspects of the day to day operations of the brewery. The ideal candidate should have experience in a packaging brewery, especially in fermentation, filtration, and cleaning. A love of craft beer is a priority and the ability to work in a team is a must.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Malt handling; heavy lifting
Filtration utilizing centrifuge and cartridge filtration
Dry hopping the prescribed amounts of hops to the designated fermenter via a top port on the tank. This involves operation of a scissor lift at heights of up to 25 feet.
Clean, sanitize, and purge tanks and process lines/hoses with strict adherence to C.I.P. and S.O.P. process
Yeast handling, including; yeast dumps, harvesting, pitching, while following sanitary procedure
Carbonation monitoring
Fermentation monitoring, including; gravity checks, tank pressurization, and temperature adjustments
Safe handling of cleaning chemicals
Ensures cellar and work area is clean, well-organized, and safe
Ensure tank exteriors and all valves and piping are cleaned regularly and left in a clean state
Precise documentation of all daily activities and communication of irregularities with supervisor
Other cellar tasks that may be assigned
The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:
Commercial brewing experience above 5,000 bbl. per year
Ability to operate a forklift, pallet jack, and scissor lift
Attention to detail
Ability to multi task
Genuine enthusiasm for craft beer
Excellent communication shills
Ability to work all shifts including evenings, weekends, and long hours
Ability to handle a large workload and a number of different projects simultaneously
Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
Good mechanical skills
Work Environment:
Working on feet all day in the fermentation cellar and QA Lab. Sometimes wet, cold, hot & noisy areas, working with strong chemicals, pressure vessels, and machinery.
