TITLE: Staff Brewer
REPORTS TO: Josh Evans, Head Brewer
Horse & Dragon Brewing Company is a 15-barrel production brewery located along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. We strive to produce high quality, great tasting craft beers and be an active participant in the vibrant community that exists in Fort Collins and throughout Colorado. As with our beers, we work to achieve balance in work, life and community. We are looking for a passionate, hardworking, experienced brewer to join our team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Brewer position will proactively support the operation by contributing to the brewing, transfer and packaging of our wonderful craft beers in addition to cleaning and maintaining equipment involved in beer production processes following established procedures. Making great beers sustainably and keeping the brewery operating in a clean and safe environment are our key goals. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. Cleaning and sanitization of all beer contact surfaces and equipment
2. General production area and warehouse cleaning
3. Operating equipment safely and following all workplace safety procedures
4. Operating grain handling equipment, malt handling, and milling
5. Operating brewhouse equipment to produce wort and perform wort transfers
6. Y east pitching and harvesting
7. Fermentation and conditioning monitoring
8. Beer cellaring operations
9. Preparation of beer for packaging
10. Packaging of beer in kegs, cans and bottles
11. Monitoring of essential facility equipment (boiler, air compressor, etc.)
12. Performing minor maintenance tasks on production equipment
13. Safe forklift operation as required
14. Troubleshooting equipment problems
15. Providing a clean and safe environment for brewery tourists
16. Complying with all company policies
17. Assisting in any other business related needs
QUALIFICATIONS:
We require an experienced production craft brewer with the following qualifications:
1. Must be 21 years of age or older
2. 2 years’ experience in a production brewing facility highly preferred
3. Thorough understanding of brewing, cellaring, cleaning, and packaging processes
4. Completed training/or education at an accredited brewing institute is preferred
ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
1. Physically and mentally able to handle the rigors of working in a production brewery:
1.1. Able to lift 75 lbs frequently and move 165 lbs occasionally.
1.2. Able to work on your feet for 8-12 hours per day
1.3. Shift work and non-traditional work hours/work week required
1.4. Ability to work in loud, wet, slippery, hot, and cold environments for long periods of time
1.5. Capable of working on ladders 10+ feet above floor level
2. Strong work ethic and dedication to the H&D family
3. Attention to detail and ability to propose and implement process improvement
4. Passionate desire to continue learning about brewing theory and technology
5. Good time management and task scheduling skills
6. Ability to be self-directed and work effectively on your own, as well as in a team setting
7. Capable of managing multiple processes at one time
8. Work ethically and with integrity
POSTION DETAILS:
1. This is a full-time salaried position
2. Compensation will be competitive and match experience and education of applicant.
