POSITION TITLE: Director of Engineering – Malting and Brew Supplies
LOCATION: Vancouver, WA
SCOPE:
This position is responsible for all North America engineering staff for an international malt supplier. Seeking candidates with previous experience in malting, brewing or brewing supplies. This person will develop capital expenditure budgets, manage the project portfolio and promote the inclusion of productivity improvements while developing and supporting a culture of continuous improvement. The ideal candidate must be able to communicate to all levels in the company, be collaborative and team oriented, and have demonstrated experience within the manufacturing environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop proof of concept working with Project Sponsors as well as vendors/suppliers to ensure feasibility of projects; continuous partnership with Project Sponsors to ensure project scope and vision are in alignment
- Lead engineering project reviews around significant capital projects; develop processes to include assessment of alternatives in practice as well as new or innovative processes and technology
- Oversee development of standardized processes across the broader engineering group
- Develop and refine project management reporting framework with a focus on planning, monitoring and forecasting projects throughout their life cycle
- Demonstrated ability to develop and lead staff
- Subject matter expert (SME) support for operations and maintenance in project management and engineering
- Negotiate with vendors, suppliers and subcontractors
- Debrief major projects to assess performance and identify opportunities for improvement
- Submit detailed business cases for Board approval including financial models
- Evaluate opportunities for leveraging PLC automation
- Lead the commissioning and acceptance of equipment inclusive of training, inspection and maintenance
- Perform post completion analysis around completed capital projects to evaluate effectiveness and performance against business case inclusive of return on capital delivery
- Develop and support culture of examining existing processes and solutions to assess opportunities from an integrated perspective
- Ensure environmental compliance
- Evaluate opportunities to conserve resources, reduce consumption and introduce more efficient processes and equipment while meeting operational objectives
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 7+ years’ experience in designing and building grain or malt related plant and equipment
- Previous experience with malting, brewing, or brewing supplies highly desired
- Ability to read blueprints, structural drawings and plan sets
- Advanced understanding of risk management policies and procedures
- Understanding of PLC automation framework and design principles
- Managerial experience with decentralized teams
- Extensive experiencing managing budgets for large construction projects
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, processes and equipment
