We are expanding into a new facility and need a skilled brewer to take over the day to day operation of our original location in central Virginia. We operate a 7bbl, direct fire brewhouse serving directly from brite tanks. We supply minimal keg distribution to the surrounding area.
Position – Lead Brewer
The Lead Brewer would be supervised by the Brewmaster but would be responsible for all production processes from start to finish, including but not limited to:
• Brewing.
• Milling and grain handling.
• Sanitizing and/or cleaning the brewhouse, cellar vessels and brite tanks.
• Transferring of beer to brite tanks and carbonating.
• Filling and storing kegs.
• All cellar duties, including dry hops, KOs, temperature and gravity monitoring and fermentation manipulation.
• Yeast maintenance and handling, including counting and assessing viability and harvesting and pitching.
• Diligent record keeping.
• Recording weekly inventory of all beer.
• Barrel work, including filling, racking and monitoring of barrel aged beers.
• Adherence to all SOPs and all duties as instructed by the Brewmaster.
• Attendance to brewery releases and promotional events.
• Many other small duties pertaining to the overall production of quality beer.
Requirements:
• At least one year of experience in an operating brewery.
• A background education in biology, chemistry or mathematics; or a formal education in brewing science is preferred, but not required.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.
• Basic-to-strong grasp of mathematics and chemistry.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Constant diligence in safety procedures and precautions.
• Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose issues on the spot.
• Ability to maintain an organized and cleanly brewery.
• Ability to stay calm and calculated in emergencies or unforeseen events.
• A passion for craft beer and brewing!
