  • Looking for an experienced brewer to lead our team - Lazy Hiker Brewing; Franklin, NC

    Lazy Hiker Brewing Co. is seeking a passionate and experienced brewer to join our team as Lead Brewer. In this role you will work closely with the Head Brewer and other members of the Brewing Team to produce quality beers that fit our brand and lifestyle. Just off the Appalachian Trail in the mountains of Western North Carolina, Lazy Hiker’s passion is crafting great beer and community since opening in May 2015. We are currently distributed in kegs and cans in the western half of NC and the northeastern part of Georgia.

    Responsibilities Include:
    • All aspects of wort production, from raw ingredient handling to transferring wort
    • Yeast Management (harvesting, viability/vitality tests, pitching, etc.)
    • Managing Fermentations: checking gravities, dry hopping, carbonating, crash cooling, pulling of trub/yeast, etc
    • Transferring finished beer, carbonating and testing finished beer
    • Packaging finished beer in kegs and cans
    • Operating canning line (Wild Goose WG4) and all related components (depal, post-fill packaging, etc.)
    • Recording detailed data on brewhouse operations
    • Running CIP’s on fermenters, brewhouse, brite tanks, etc.
    • Following SOPs for all aspects of brewhouse operations
    • Assisting with managing and ordering raw materials, ensuring all inventory necessary is available
      for production
    • Assisting in recipe development
    • Ensuring the cleanliness of all areas of the brewhouse
    • Maintaining equipment and other areas of the brewery and facilities
    • Filling and preparing orders for distributors
    • Assisting in all aspects of quality control (lab work, sensory panels, etc.)
    • Ensuring safety of yourself and other team members at all times

    Requirements:
    • 2+ years of wort production and cellar experience (preferably in a 10bbl brewhouse or larger)
    • Team player – ability to work well with others to accomplish team goals
    • Ability to think critically and multitask
    • Attention to detail and ability to work unsupervised while maintaining safety and quality standards
    • Strong time-management skills
    • Good communication skills
    • Ability to operate a forklift and pallet jack (or learn)
    • Ability to lift 55+ lbs regularly, and move 165 lbs
    • Ability to safely handle concentrated cleaning chemicals on a regular basis
    • Ability to crouch, sit, stand, pull, push, bend, and/or twist while working in confined, wet, hot, and/or cold environments, and stand an entire shift
    • Ability to climb and work on a ladder
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite
    • Proficiency in-house brewing software (a plus but not required)
    • A valid drivers license and reliable transportation
    • A passion for beer and brewing
