  • Brewpub's Using Septic Systems

I would like some input from members who live in the Boonie's how they set up their septic systems to handle their breweries. Would like as much detail on types of septic systems and costs.
    Thanks Wolfgang

You need to talk to Moonlight (Brian Hunt) if he doesn't chime in.

We are surround by soy and corn, The state (PA) made us install 9000 gallons of holding tank capacity that has to be pumped. DEP will not allow domestic onsite septic to handle the TSS and BOD load of breweries (it would cause them to fail). Thats not to say that there arent fancier engineered systems that can be installed, but to what end and expense.

        Whew.
Yes, it is possible. Yes it is possible for it to fail, and then what?
A huge amount of settling and residence time is critical-far beyond what is normal from a house. Next you must be hugely on top of your water usage and conservation. All brewhouse effluent must be screened to prevent particles going down. You must prevent as much yeast as is humanly possible from entering the drain. Yeast is death to septic systems.
I am now also considering collecting all brewhouse effluent and trucking it to a dairy. It would help if you were on a farm with animals...
