    When I use hop pellets, they hop matter falls to the concave bottom and plug the drain tube. This prevents wort in there from circulating out, and it gets caramalized, or at worst- burnt. Also, hop material gets trapped in there and charred.

    I've had to dump two batches due to this.

    120gallon boiler- with direct fired propane burners.

    Just did a couple batches with hop bags/socks. No problem and no hassles. But i'm wondering what this does to hop utilization- any suggestions or recommendations?

    Before trying the socks, we well insulated the drain tube where this is happening, and made sure the burners were not under the tube- still had the burning issue.:
