  • NSF certification on tanks

It was recently brought to my attention that some manufactures' tanks are not NSF/ASME certified. Has anyone ever run into a problem with inspectors with this? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Just saw this and realize it's old, but anywho. Our inspector tried to tell us we could not use the 10, 15 bbl tanks we had just received because they were not stamped. After appealing to the state and a week of back and forth to higher and higher bureaucrats it was determined that inspectors should handle breweries the same as dairies. Certification is not necessary. To the best of my knowledge this is true in every state. Hope this helps and is still relevant.

Vessels that are under 1 bar, or 14.7psi gauge pressure are exempt from ASME pressure vessel code. Local inspectors should know that. To my knowledge, no commercial brewery manufacturer in US builds ASME tanks as part of normal brewery manufacture.
