  • indoor glycol chiller suggestions

our brewery is expanding to a new building. brewery is in the basement. main floor is unoccupied. roof top not built to support heavy chiller. need some suggestions how to have chiller indoors. close to brew system makes sense but the noise could be annoying. summer time heat and hot chiller could be uncomfortable. however the heat from chiller in the sorta cold winter could help us. there must be someone out there with a indoor glycol set up. any ideas are greatly appreciated.

    Split system might work....

Put the compressor/condenser on top of the roof and the glycol circulation unit inside the brewery. This is done all the time--but many US companies want you to buy a packaged unit. Your glycol unit should not be noisy, so wouldn't worry about that. Splitting the system into hot part outdoors and cool part indoors makes sense in a warmer climate. Can't recommend anyone in US. I've had a hard time finding anyone who does this in US. Any leads, please let me know: I could use a source!

      check this out for chiller

What size ferms are you thinking? I know people running 10 bbl ferms with these chillers including myself.

Pro Refrigeration should be able to build any of their tonnages in a remote condenser set up if you ask them about it.
I would also Expect G&D and others could do this as well.
I am running one older model 7.5 HP Pro unit that is set up this way.
Only the condenser is remote which is all thats needed.
You need a savvy HVACR Tech to install and dial this system in correctly.

            PRO was my first choice....

PRO wouldn't sell me a remote glycol tank/evaporator/pump/controls for my split system. Neither would Fluid Chillers. Others won't even return my RFQs. (Is the economy supposed to be bad?) Still looking for someone who will sell me the components to a split system. And it's not that difficult to assemble and commission them. Pretty basic stuff for a journeyman HVAC guy. But split systems are a great way to use real estate in cases just like bcryan has.

              10-4

I sure get the not returning calls part.
Last time when I really needed parts, G&D was very helpful.
On the build out of a remote unit all it really takes is for them to install a compressor rather that a condensing unit in the main cabinet and spec. the correct size remote condenser with the correct headmaster and fan controls etc. on board. Then its just a matter of wiring it out in the factory for that arrangement. In this configuration the condenser coil is really the only thing that moves. The glycol well and everything else is on board.
One other choice if you have the roof space is to go modular with a separate glycol well down below in the plant. In this case your pumps are also " outboard." I replaced a much smaller older system with this type and as a central unit it works very well. Also the redundancy is strictly golden in this case.

I definitely agree that you'll want to locate your condenser remotely, if you are not able to locate the entire chiller system outside the brewery. Especially in the 10-12 HP size range, the amount of heat this unit generates is often much more than is anticipated.

We (Pro Chiller Systems), offer our complete line of systems with a remote air cooled condenser option. We can also offer chiller modules- a module is a packaged chiller system, less glycol tank and pumps. Customers will locate the tank and pump skid inside the brewery with the modules remoted on the roof or outside.

We won't offer the individual components from our packaged system loose to be assembled and configured onsite, but would be happy to provide a remote solution for your situation.

Please send me an email at jimvgjr@prorefrigeration.com, or send an email directly to our sales team at sales@prorefrigeration.com. The regional sales engineer servicing your area will follow up with you directly. We'd appreciate the opportunity to provide an option.

                Good Luck,

                Jim
