  • wooden beer barrels

Saw on an old thread that there are still a few places in Germany that make plastic lined wooden beer barrels. Does anyone have their contact details? Are these barrels able to take pressure enough for serving purposes?

    Cheers

The Society for the Preservation of Beers from the Wood

Alternatively, if you are interested in real wood casks, try contacting some of these British brewers.

      'From the wood'

Those wooden barrels they use are antiques and they are pitch lined. Mainly used for tradition. They are used for Gravity dispense. The kegs are vented and then tapped with a gravity tap. Most breweries sell 1 or 2 brands via 'vom vass' (from keg) and everything else 'vom flasche' (from bottle).

You see these kegs in Dusseldorf and Cologne where they serve one brand of beer and the other is Bamberg where everyhting is very traditional. There is a very big push to go to plastic lined stainless and there are kegs that are made to look like wood...etc.
