  • watered down high gravity wort

Has anyone ever had a piece of equipment fail in such a way that a high gravity wort (20 plato or higher) was accidentally watered down between the whirlpool and the fermenter? we had a light go out on our switchboard and didnt realize that our HLT was still feeding water to the Kettle/WP after knockout until it was too late. Any experiences? Advice?

Depends on how much extra liquor went in, but if the SG is still okay then I'd be inclined to just pitch as normal and see what happens!

Alternatively, if you have time and fermentation capacity, why not do a higher gravity wort and blend the two together?

we did just pitch as we intended. beer tastes fine. we could probably blend a big beer and small beer, but as the real brewer here at the pub is only technically part time, it doesn't make much sense to try to make more beer and take up tank space. I like the suggestion though.
