  • Fresh Hops in Kettle

Does anyone use fresh hops in the boil without the use of hop bags?

I don't recommend it if you're brewing any kind of reasonable batch size. You won't be able to wash them out (even with a 3" opening on our kettle) so you have to climb in your steamy, enclosed kettle and and then bucket brigade them out the manway.

Which, obviously, OSHA would certainly never ever have a massive problem with.

Sounds like a nightmare. Thanks for the heads up as our brew house is plumbed with 1.5".
