  • Dry hopping and immediately cold crashing

Does anyone dry hop and then immediately cold crash, utilising the convection produced with cooling to distribute the pellets along with retaining the fresh aroma from the dh. Looking to retain as much aroma as possible and a quicker turnaround. 10bbl tanks. TIA

No, not necessary at all for dispersion from what I've experienced. Here's what I have learned: I dry hop at 68F and put 10psi on the tank. The day before transferring, I crash to 37F. It works flawlessly every time. I think dry hopping at a lower temperature impedes rather than enhances the aroma. I also tend to keg the beers that I dry hop rather than putting them in one of our serving brites. As a brite drains and the headspace increases, I've found the aroma diminishes much faster than when serving from a keg because the kegs drain faster and there's less headroom for the aroma to dissipate into.

    My $0.02.

    Cheers,

DH at 68? You must get a refermentation. How long do you let the hops sit? What yeast are you using?
